John Denver, a singer-songwriter who hails from Colorado that specialized in folk pop music touched the hearts of millions. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado. The singer-songwriter eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame says it is true that John Denver is unlike any other performer who has the recognizable image of Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. He is now Colorado's international image. If you travel with me, you may meet people at the other side of the planet. As an example, you might meet an individual who is from New Zealand. And when you say that you are from Colorado the response is "Oh John Denver!" Brown said. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short time in folk music groups was Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff created the track with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver was introduced to an earlier version it was clear that it was destined to be the next hit single. The song was performed in Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver recorded it just days afterward.
